Kent’s Safety Internship Gives Students Real-World Field Experience
We’re leading with safety and building the next generation of trailblazers who will own it this summer. As one of the top five concrete contractors in the country, we offer something rare in the industry: a dedicated safety internship program.
They dive in on-site, earn their OSHA 30 certifications, participate in toolbox talks, and learn how proactive, people-first safety shapes every aspect of construction. “We believe safety is a leadership track,” says National Safety Director Manny Rodriguez. “Our program gives students meaningful experience in the field while reinforcing the idea that safety is more than compliance. It’s culture.”
What Our Interns Are Learning
From day one, our interns get involved in everything from completing daily hazard analyses to documenting safety protocols and helping lead jobsite observations. They’re learning how to spot risks early and actively manage and mitigate those risks before they escalate.
Students are experiencing the company’s commitment to safe operations and the culture that drives it firsthand. “The Safety Team has been so supportive,” said Ashley Aragon, a CM major from UNT. “They’ve made it easy to ask questions and feel like part of the team.”
“My mentor taught me to be proactive, not reactive, to prevent hazards before they start,” added Andrea Martinez-Morales.
And they’re not just observing, they’re leading, too. Angel Quintero-Cerero from UNC Charlotte led his first toolbox talk on silica safety and saw exactly how responsive a crew becomes when safety leadership is clear, informed, and confident.
Why Kent’s Safety Internship Stands Out
Safety is embedded in everything we do, from training to mentorship and execution. Our program reflects that. Our interns walk away with:
- Mentorship from full-time safety professionals
- Practical training in risk analysis, mitigation strategies, and incident prevention
- Industry-recognized certifications like OSHA 30
- Opportunities to lead toolbox talks and daily safety practices
More than anything, they gain a deeper understanding of how shared ownership of safety transforms job performance and how a strong safety culture makes great construction possible.
Kent Companies is a National Leader in Safety and Workforce Development
Kent’s Safety Internship Program is just one example of how we support growth in the construction workforce. From full-time roles to long-term mentorship, we’re creating more ways for students and early-career professionals to get hands-on experience and find where they thrive. For those who want to be close to the action—but make a difference beyond the schedule—safety could be the place to start.
